Quivertree Safaris

One of the greatest adventures any family can have is to go on safari.

A safari embodies everything we look for in a foreign trip - exotic, adventurous, close to nature, family bonding and unforgettable memories.

At Quivertree we offer family safaris to two great destinations - Africa and India.
Most importantly, we’ve been on safari in Africa and India with our own kids, so we can advise you based on our own experience on what will work best for your family!

What does Quivertree offer that others don’t?

A unique family perspective. We’ve been on safari, in both Africa and India, with our own kids! We know what works for kids and what doesn’t. We’ve been when our kids were babies and when they were teens, and everything in between.

Most travel companies in North America and Europe outsource to third party operators whom they may never even have met. Quivertree is different. In Africa, we’ve teamed up with Lorne Sulcas, a long time personal friend and dad to two kids himself, who also happens to be the most accomplished safari guide and wildlife photographer that we know. Not only has Lorne been taking his own kids on safari since they were toddlers, but he has personally led safaris in East and South Africa for many years for clients from all over the world, and he will be helping us custom-design safaris for Quivertree families, taking into account kids’ ages, the time of year and each family’s personal preferences. For those families looking for the ultimate African safari, Lorne may even be available to lead safaris himself from time to time.

This is very different from being picked up by a guide you know nothing about at some airport in Africa who you hope will have an understanding of kids!

AFRICA:

The classic safari destination, Africa is home to savannah grasslands teeming with wild animals. The two main safari regions are East Africa (Tanzania and Kenya) and Southern Africa (South Africa, Namibia and Botswana).

Southern Africa:
Best for families with young children: South Africa
Best for families with older children: South Africa, Namibia, Botswana
Best time of year: June-September
Budget: Low to high (Botswana is an ultra premium destination)
Best to combine with: A trip to cosmopolitan South Africa and /or the Victoria Falls.

East Africa:
Best for families with older children: Tanzania, Kenya
Best time of year: February (Tanzania wildebeest migration), September
Budget: Medium to high
Best to combine with: A visit to exotic Zanzibar for culture and the beach.

Important Note: Malaria prophylaxis is necessary when on safari in most regions. A major advantage for families with small children in South Africa is the availability of safaris in malaria - free regions.

INDIA:

India is home to elephants, rhinos, lions and of course, the Royal Bengal Tiger. A safari in India is a wildlife experience like no other, with an opportunity to view game on elephant back, or from river boats, or from jeeps - through the original Jungle Book country.

Best for families with children of all ages.
Best time of Year: October - April
Budget: Low to medium
Best to combine with: A tour of either North or South India.
