Australia Sample Itinerary

Day 1
Arrival in Sydney. Once the extremely remote destination for convicts sentenced to transportation from the UK, Sydney has grown to become the largest city in Australia. A melting pot of cultures and the economic hub of the country.

Day 2
Full day tour of Sydney – explore the compelling history of the city, and then visit the fabulous Taronga Zoo by ferry, where you’ll learn all about the fascinating animal life of the continent.

Days 3
Free day to shop, go to world famous Bondi Beach or simply take it easy.

Day 4
Fly to Uluru, the incredible vast monolith in the center of the country that is so important to the Aborignal people. Learn about their very ancient culture today.

Day 5
Exploring Uluru. A tour of the circumference, whether by foot or bike, is a wonderful experience. It is hard to fathom how awe inspiring Uluru actually is until you get here.

Day 6
Early morning hike of Kata Tjuta – another site of great symbolic importance, these massive and magnificent red rock hills make for a wonderful hike through an incredible landscape. Later, collect your rental car and begin your drive through the vast Red Center. Tonight you will stop at Kings Canyon.

Day 7
Hiking Kings Canyon. One of the great day hikes of Australia, this is easily done by most fit people in about 5 hours, it’s a remarkable hike through the wonderful scenery of Kings Canyon. Later, drive to Alice Springs for overnight.

Day 8
Fly to Townsville on the alluring Queensland coast. Continue by ferry to Magnetic Island for two nights. This magical island, with it’s incredible undersea life and its wild population of koalas is truly well off the beaten tourist path, and somewhere to savor. Meet the locals, attend a frog jumping race, go snorkeling or diving, and of course hike the koala bear trail.

Day 9
At leisure on Magnetic Island.

Day 10
Pick up your rental car and drive to Airlie Beach, the jumping- off spot for what is arguably the most beautiful single sight in Australia – incredible Whitehaven Beach.

Day 11
Tour by boat to Whitehaven Beach. It is hard to describe the unbelievable miles of virgin sands and pristine azure waters at Whitehaven. Pictures can only try do it justice. Your trip will include several snorkeling spots as well. Take an optional helicopter or light plane ride over the incredible Whitsunday Islands and the Great Barrier Reef.

Day 12
Fly to Brisbane and begin your journey back home.

What time of year is best for family travel to Australia & New Zealand?

Australia is truly a year round destination. Summers can be very hot, and we like wintertime best (the southern winter is from around May – September) – it’s less crowded, less expensive, and the weather is amazing in many areas of the country.

New Zealand is more temperate, with milder summers and colder winters. Summer is an excellent time in New Zealand.

Are Australia & New Zealand good destinations for family travel?

For sure. They are modern Western countries with great hotels, great food, great beaches and so much more. Get out into nature, learn first hand about the remarkable history of the indigenous people, and let’s not forget the unique animal life.

What can a family do in Australia & New Zealand?

Enjoy the glorious coastline, the remarkable red desert of the Red Center, the rainforests and the mountains. Spend time on a sheep ranch, or do a multi day hike through the wilderness.
