China Sample Itinerary

Day 1
Arrive in Beijing!

This evening enjoy a traditional Beijing duck dinner!

Day 2
Today visit the amazing Forbidden City, and then tour the hutongs – the traditional old neighborhoods where you will be able to enter homes and meet the locals. This evening, enjoy a cooking lesson in a local home.

Day 3
Visit the Great Wall at Mutianyu, with its well preserved remains. You’ll take the chairlift up and then toboggan down! Also, visit the extraordinary Summer Palace.

Day 4
Take the high speed train to Xian. Visit the Great Mosque, and enjoy a local food tour.

Day 5
Meet the incredibly lifelike Terracotta Warriors, one of China’s most astonishing sights. Also, enjoy a bike ride on the ancient City Wall, and visit the Big Goose Pagoda.

Days 6/7
Fly to Yunnan Province in South West China. Home to many minority peoples and amazing mountains, gorges and valleys. In Dali, enjoy a traditional tea ceremony and learn the local way of making cheese. In a small town learn about pickle making and try the famous one-noodle soup!

Days 8/9
Travel to the old town of Shaxi, on the famous Tea Horse Road. Hike to see ancient Buddhist carvings in caves, and explore towns that have fallen off the map!

Days 10/11
Explore lovely Lijiang and nearby towns and villages in the shadow of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. A great opportunity to visit Yunnan’s authentic and lesser known communities. Learn the art of calligraphy and wood carving.

Days 12/13/14
Travel to the town of Zhongdian, now renamed Shangri-la! Hike the astounding Tiger Leaping Gorge, visit local Tibetan villages, Buddhist monasteries, outdoor markets and see yaks, sheep and horses.

Day 15
Fly to Kunming, capital of Yunnan. Visit the famous Stone Forest!

Day 16
Depart for home or continue your travels to other parts of China, or take the new fast train from Kunming to exotic Laos, from where you can continue your travels to Thailand or Vietnam!
